The design for the Espaço do Arquiteto is the result of a competition promoted by the regional Architecture Council in 2016. ALTA’s project received an honorable mention.
Restricted space and geometry lead the designed to be based on two premises: layout flexibility and avoidance of space subdivision.
The project is divided in two sectors: a central service block and a reception block with technical áreas. This strategic division results in a large and ample space that can be used in different ways: meetings, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, fairs and launches.
A suspended steel frame bounds the center block. The structural choice allows for programmatic flexibility: internal spaces of the central block can be reconfigured according to the Council’s needs. This sector of the project houses the service and private rooms, which can be entirely enclosed with descending curtains.
The reception and services block efficiently concentrates part of the program and prevents the technical areas from segmenting the project. Reception, warehouse, pantry, toilets and lockers are accommodated in this sector.
